ArtStream Helps Actors find Their Voice

ArtStream, Inc - Theatre for an Inclusive World

ArtStream’s classes, workshops, and performing companies fuel each student’s imagination, creativity, and focus. And that’s not all. Students improve communication and social skills and develop friendships. Newly discovered talents and capabilities improve self-esteem, poise, and confidence that extends into their daily lives. All ArtStreamers are valued for their creative contributions. At ArtStream we work together, learn from each other, and Perform Our Art Out.

ArtStreamer Kelly, acting since 2010, shares:
“When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be onstage. My dad even built me a little three-step stage. But in middle and high school I was not allowed to be in chorus or drama. But then I got out of high school and went to an Art Stream performance and I saw a place where I
could perform on stage.

I have been in 10 shows. We develop the characters, the script and the music at rehearsals. It is a lot of hard work. When I get the final script, I practice the entire play every day. By opening night, I know all of the lines to the play.

I have met a lot of new people. Please support ArtStream. Come and see a show!”

Kelly’s mom shares:
“I am so proud of Kelly. For me it is very emotional to see her so articulate and confident. Kelly persevered in spite of low expectations from “experts.” Finding ArtStream gave Kelly the training and opportunities that are allowing her to thrive. And, just as important, other people can now appreciate her talents. Thanks for giving her these opportunities.”

At ArtStream, performance is transformative. Whether on a stage, in a classroom, on the job, or at family gatherings, we all perform roles, projecting our best - or worst - selves and becoming more of who we are, or would like to be, as we do so. What better way to discover who we are, or can be, than by trying on new roles? What better way to develop insight and empathy than by imagining yourself in someone else’s shoes? This is how we all develop and grow. Onstage, or off.
This is true for ArtStreamers, too. Whether in classes, workshops, or rehearsals, ArtStreamers play games. Theatrical games that require them to listen, to engage, to communicate, and to collaborate with each other; improvisational games that teach them how to make eye contact, think on their feet, make connections, synthesize information, and solve problems.
ArtStream’s demanding and very entertaining process encourages ArtStreamers to find their voices and to discover their creativity and strengths.
