Ernie-- The Stray Finding His Way Home

Ernie

Maui Humane Society through the support of our donors have been able to help many animals like Ernie, who was dumped outside the shelter one night back in August. Ernie had several wounds on his neck from a tight restraint and open lacerations on his feet. He was thin, skittish, had a badly sunburned muzzle, intestinal parasites and was flea infested. His medical needs were attended to immediately by our veterinary and animal care teams.

Over the past 7 months as Ernie has waited to be adopted, staff have worked tirelessly to provide socialization and enrichment to help him become a great adoption candidate. Ernie has benefited from living with a wonderful foster family which has helped him adapt to living in a house and learning to trust people.

Most recently during a foster home transition, Ernie ran away and was missing for several days in Haiku. Devastated staff spent their evenings and days off searching for Ernie, the underdog that everyone had such high hopes for. On the fifth day, our Animal Care Manager Keani spotted him running along a side road. When Ernie recognized Keani’s voice he ran to her with excitement and immediately flipped over for a belly rub!

Ernie is now safe and healthy, still hoping to find his forever home.
