Impacting the Life of a Child

Defending Potential

What started out as a single’s match, soon turned into a family’s match. Little sister Hannah, was matched with her first Big, Morgan, in September of 2013. Morgan and Hannah loved going to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina’s events together, enjoyed arts and crafts, watching movies, and just spending time with one another.
Over the years, Tamra, Morgan’s mother, had built a relationship with Hannah and decided that once Morgan, left for college, she didn’t want the match to be closed. Since being matched with Tamra, the match enjoys BBBS events, going for pedicures, walks, and finding new trails to visit. They also love going out to eat! While Morgan was in college, and now a new town, Tamra and Hannah will FaceTime her, so she is able to talk with Hannah. Hannah particularly enjoys this!
Since being matched, Hannah has opened up more socially and personally with having her Big Sisters. Tamra once stated, “I know her interests, struggles and personality much better than initially.” Case Manager, Shelby, stated, “It has been great to see Hannah progress over the years, and develop into a very well mannered, respectful young lady.” Hannah is currently in 6th grade, and is working on understanding Middle School. Tamra enjoys going to Hannah’s academic awards, and anything else she can do that shows Hannah she is proud of her and her schooling.
