Puppy Rescued from Side of Road

PUPPY FOUND IN DITCH NOW RECOVERING AT THE KENTUCKY HUMANE SOCIETY: This poor eight-week-old puppy arrived at KHS October 5 after being discovered in a ditch on the side of the road. The puppy, whom we’re calling Maisy, is suffering from severe demodectic mange that has left her inflamed skin raw and she is missing almost all of her fur. Our veterinary team got right to work helping this young dog feel better! They began her on antibiotics for her skin, gave her a medicated bath, and fitted her in a nice sweater to keep her warm. While demodectic mange is not usually life-threatening, it often occurs when a dog has an immature or compromised immune system, making the animal more susceptible to other illnesses. Wanting to ensure Maisy has the best chance possible, we quickly sent her into a loving foster home where she will be able to heal without exposure to common illnesses that occur in the shelter environment. Maisy is settling into her foster home now and she will spend the next several weeks recovering, socializing and healing from all that she has been through. Please keep this little one in your thoughts and prayers! We will continue to provide updates on Maisy as we have them. Want to help pets like Maisy? Consider donating in her honor! The Kentucky Humane Society is a local nonprofit that relies completely on donations to care for fragile animals in need like Maisy. Donations are gratefully accepted! CFC #16996
