Red Cross provides relief to Baltimore Gas Explosion survivors
On Monday, August 10th, a gas explosion rocked a Northwest Baltimore neighborhood. The explosion, which could be felt at the nearby American Red Cross headquarters, leveled several homes and took two lives.
The American Red Cross was quick to respond to the scene to provide water, food, hygiene and personal care items, and direct financial assistance to the survivors - putting them up in hotel rooms as needed, replacing medications and medical supplies, and much more.
In the long term, we are providing recovery resources to those displaced or otherwise impacted by this devastating explosion.
Each year, we respond to more than 500 disasters large and small in Baltimore City alone. Most of these are home fires. The American Red Cross is often one of the first responders to provide care, comfort, and recovery resources to the individuals and families whose lives have just been destroyed.
