Shelly has hope because of friends like you...

Shelly & Annie are Thankful for YOU!

Annie (right) and Shelly (left) are best friends and have been for many years. Today, they’re visiting a fresh produce drop at Peace Lutheran Church, a Brazos Valley Food Bank (BVFB) food distribution site. Shelly says she feels lucky that she has a job, considering all of the recent layoffs and furloughs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially being the primary caretaker of her three school-aged granddaughters. She adopted the 8, 13 and 14-year-old when their parents could no longer care for them. Her hours at her department store job have recently been cut, however, when she tore her meniscus, and it became too painful to stand during her shifts. Shelly has been staying home for a couple of weeks until she can have surgery to, hopefully, correct the issue. Unfortunately, staying home means that she is without a paycheck to help support her and her growing granddaughters. Shelly knew she still needed to put food on the table for her family. That’s why her and Shelly decided to visit the food distribution at Peace Lutheran Church, where they received fresh fruits and vegetables and bakery items, like sliced bread. “We need that fresh fruit and veggies!” she says. Because you choose to give, families, like Shelly’s, have hope in the midst of crisis. “Thank you very much,” Shelly says. “You really are feeding the hungry!”
