We feel safe and secure now

“As a veteran, raising my two granddaughters on social security is difficult. After my granddaughter and I were assaulted, we needed a new place to live. SAMMinistries helped us find an apartment and gave my granddaughters beds to sleep on. We feel safe and are very grateful!” – P, Veteran
“As a disabled combat veteran going through a divorce, I came to Texas with little to nothing. I connected with SAMMinistries and they gave me the assistance and relief that I so desperately needed. I received basic furnishings such as a bed, some pots and pans, and linens. I even received a table and chairs for the dining area. I gratefully accepted all of it and am thankful that programs such as this are in place for veterans like myself who are experiencing extenuating circumstances. Words cannot express how thankful I am for the help they have given me. You guys are awesome.” – JH, Army Veteran
“It’s indescribably good to go to my own refrigerator. – EM, Navy Veteran
As one of several programs helping people overcome homelessness, SAMMinistries’ Veterans’ Housing Stability Program provides rent and utility support to veterans and their families to prevent them from entering homelessness, or to rapidly re-house them into new homes. The program also provides furniture, basic household goods, and support from a case manager.
Having a permanent place to call home has a profound impact on the safety, health, and well-being of individuals and a community. For people who have experienced homelessness, fear, uncertainty, and violence are the norm. Building trust, identifying your needs, and obtaining housing are a process but the feeling that comes from having your own place and essential household items is indescribable for people who have experienced homelessness.
SAMMinistries helps people from all walks of life who are at risk of becoming homeless or have lost their homes find a place to call home. The agency is an interfaith ministry whose mission is to help the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless attain self-sufficiency by offering, with dignity and compassion, shelter, housing, and services.
SAMMinistries uses evidence-based Housing First and Trauma-Informed Care models to help families and individuals attain stable housing and develop self-sufficiency. This is accomplished through a comprehensive suite of programs including: homeless prevention, street outreach; young adult drop-in center; non-congregate shelter; rapid re-housing; transitional housing; and permanent supportive housing. These programs are accompanied by holistic support services that encourage education, skill-building, and health and wellness as important keys to successfully moving out of crisis and achieving stability.
Over the last 39 years, SAMMinistries has transformed the lives of over 130,000 individuals. Just last year we served close to 5,000 families and individuals, 40% of them were children.
Using proven approaches that emphasize physical, psychological, and emotional safety, SAMMinistries’ programs strengthen the community by reducing the rate of homelessness, which contributes to increased employment, spending, investing, tax revenue, and education while also decreasing crime and costs associated with social services and health care.
Our commitment is to a future where homelessness in our community is rare and brief. Because nobody should be without a home.
