You Are Not Alone
• One of the loneliest places around can be a children’s hospital. Everyday 1 in 100 children are born with a congenital heart defect, not to mention the other families who receive a different medical diagnosis. After living through this experience, Maryssa’s Mission Founders, Mitchell and Mindy Rivas knew that had to change and positively impact the medically fragile community. A normal day involves visiting families during one of the most vulnerable times in their life, bed-side next to their sick child. Team Maryssa provides a hot, delicious meal, a hospital care package, and gift cards to help with parking, food, or other unexpected expenses. They also partner with the hospitals to provide catering for entire hospital departments such as the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), pediatric intensive care units (PICU), and Oncology (Cancer) wings. Three years ago, Maryssa’s Mission added the Home Away from Home Initiative, providing safe lodging for displaced families whose child was receiving life-saving treatment in the hospital. To date Maryssa’s Mission has served over 3,500 individuals impacted with the stress and challenge of raising a chronically-ill child. A little over a year ago, Maryssa’s Mission added bereavement support. Unfortunately, many journeys end way too soon, leaving a family devastated and planning a funeral. Maryssa’s Mission introduced bereavement support to strengthen our commitment to our families to be with them every step of their journey. A hospital room can be cold and lonely but your support allows us to bring love and warmth to sick children and their families, in the State of Ohio and beyond.
