Today, Louie is happy and loved.... but his story could have had a very different ending. This sweet hound mix was born in the rural South, in a part of the country where there are "too many" dogs and far from enough resources to care for them. Neglected and ultimately abandoned by his owner, Louie was lucky enough to make it to a shelter, but like many facilities in that region, it was overcrowded, underfunded and overwhelmed. Though young, friendly and sweet, Louie was eventually scheduled for euthanasia simply because of a lack of space to care for him.
That's where City Dogs & City Kitties stepped in. We got Louie surgery and rehab for his severe pain, due to a badly broken hip that was never treated. He was placed in a loving foster home to recover, and to get the love he’d never known before. Today, he is healthy, healed, adopted and living his best life. He will never know neglect or cruelty again.
Louie is just one of the 1200+ animals we rescue each year, each with their own story and their own happy ending. We, and the rural communities we serve, are so grateful for your support with this rewarding work. Thank you!
