El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank (EPFH) became an independent food bank in the summer of 2016 with the mission to combat food insecurity in the region. Since its inception, EPFH has become a critical resource for the community, addressing the needs of our community's most vulnerable people facing hunger and standing as the backbone of El Paso's social safety net. EPFH is the only food bank serving El Paso, Hudspeth, and Culberson counties. These three counties encompass a diverse population with a high level of food insecurity. According to a study conducted by the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), an alarming 35% of El Pasoans are food insecure. This statistic shows the importance of EPFH's role in the community. Food insecurity does not discriminate and negatively impacts men, women, and children of all ages, races, ethnicities, religions, and abilities/disabilities—creating a ripple effect that impacts health, education, and the overall quality of life across our region.
