The Environmental Protection Network (EPN) launched its Pro Bono Capacity-Building Technical Assistance Program to fight climate change and environmental injustices across the country. Over the last three years, we have connected more than 200 experts from within our volunteer network of 650+ EPA alumni—scientists, lawyers, economists, and others—to over 1,000 requests for technical assistance from disadvantaged communities; community-serving non-profit organizations; and under-resourced state, local, and tribal government agencies. Our volunteers and staff help groups and agencies navigate and understand government programs, data, and processes; gain access to partners, allies, and decision makers; and apply for funding to further achieve environmental justice. With our growing Community Outreach Team, we have leveraged thousands of volunteer hours on community identified needs from reviewing permits, to teaching protocols for gathering water and ambient air samples, to advising on critical next steps to achieve proper contamination remediation at Superfund sites. In addition, we have helped communities access over $530 million in federal funds.

Text on screen timed with narration Narration: Hi! I’m Stan Meiburg, and I worked for many years as a federal employee like you, in my case, for the Environmental Protection Agency, helping to protect our air, water and land. Now, I have the privilege of working with over 650 of my fellow retirees for the Environmental Protection Network, a small but mighty nonprofit that continues to work to help agencies follow the law, follow the science, and be transparent. We’ve already been able to help more than 1000 nonprofits and communities access $550 million in Federal funding, and your gift to the Environmental Protection Network through the Combined Federal Campaign can help ensure that this work continues. Thank you very much for participating in the Combined Federal Campaign and for your gift to support the Environmental Protection Network and its efforts to protect our environment.
