The mission of The Father McKenna Center is to offer a haven of hope and dignity to men struggling with homelessness and families facing food insecurity. This year, the McKenna Center served 35,863 meals to men struggling with homelessness and provided groceries to 805 households experiencing food insecurity across 5,230 visits.
The McKenna Center designed the three core parts of our service – the Day Shelter, Food Pantry, and Hypothermia Transition Programs – in such a way that they humanize the communities we serve and facilitate opportunities for connection, friendship, and learning among staff, volunteers, and guests. At the McKenna Center, our clients are not just treated as another number – they are known and valued as individuals. The McKenna Center also operates a robust volunteer program where 1,083 volunteers provided 12,784 hours of service during the past year. This equated to more than 6 additional staff.
Your support through the CFC will enable the McKenna Center to keep serving hearty, healthy meals to men struggling with homelessness, along with access to case management, free health and legal services, showers, laundry, clothing, and computers through our Day Shelter Program. Through the Food Pantry, we will provide a dignified shopping experience to our neighbors struggling with food insecurity, many of whom are seniors and people with disabilities. From November 1 through March 31, the McKenna Center will house up to a dozen men in our Hypothermia Transition Program, providing them with intensive case management, a clean bed, shower, and breathing room to get their life in order in a predictable environment. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
