For James, his struggle after serving our country with honor hit hard when he returned home. Every day he was haunted by the invisible wounds of war—post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the trauma of combat. Nightmares made sleeping impossible, and anxiety became his constant companion. This led to James having challenges holding down a job, paying his bills on time, and having enough food to eat.One morning, after another sleepless night, James reached his breaking point. The thought of ending his life seemed like the only way to escape the pain.It was in that darkest moment that James reached out to HOPE. He picked up his phone and called HOPE, desperate for someone to hear him, to see him, to help him.We were there for him. When you give, you are, too. You are there with him and with us, being sure the message is answered, providing counseling or emergency meals or job training. James needed all of these things to heal and rebuild. With your contribution of any amount, you can give HOPE to a veteran like James.
