Three species that IAE has worked to recover for decades achieved fantastic milestones for conservation last year. Fender’s blue butterfly was downgraded from Endangered to Threatened status by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Golden paintbrush and Nelson’s checkermallow were removed from the Threatened list and declared safe from extinction.

These actions are due in no small part to our efforts to rebuild their populations and restore their native habitats. Over twenty years ago, we set out to recover these species through careful planning, research, community engagement, and strong regional partnerships, and it paid off! These are massive wins for conservation and demonstrate that applying ecological science to real-world problems works.
