JD's Story features the testimonial of a 5 year old boy and his family who stayed at the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill for over 100 days. JD received a Bone Marrow Transplant and utilized the RMH during his recovery process. His mom, Cat, described their experience at RMH in a very positive light--saying she wants everyone to know what a great place it is. The video shows JD and Cat going to the hospital, playing on a playground at Ronald McDonald House and bonding with staff. See the full audio transcript below:
"We knew that after the transplant, we would need to be within an hour of the hospital for 100 days.
So when we were discharged, we knew we couldn’t go home, so the Ronald McDonald House is where we needed to be so we could still be close.
My first impression of the House is that it was a home away from home. Everybody here is so friendly and very nice. And to have everything we needed so close to the hospital where we needed to stay without having to be cramped and on top of each other and worried about where’s everybody going to sleep or be... It was nice to be able to be together and not have to worry about much.
I’d like for people who don’t know anything about the House to know what an amazing place it is, what an amazing organization it is.
Their motto is to keep families together and they really strive to do that.
I’d really had no idea until we came to stay here how much effort and how hard the House works and what a wonderful organization it is. "
