Your support helps the Kentucky Humane Society save animals like Arthur. When this two-year-old kitty came to us, his body, head and ears were covered in infected wounds. Though clearly hurt, he was loving and hungry for attention from our staff. We sedated him to evaluate his injuries, and what we found was simply horrific. Third-degree burns dripped down his body – indicating someone had poured a flammable liquid on Arthur before lighting him on fire.

Through tears, we promised Arthur we would do our best to save him – and give him the quality of life and love he deserved. His road to recovery was long. We managed his pain and treated his wounds with medical ointments and antibiotics. And against all odds, Arthur kept fighting. After a month of round-the-clock treatment, Arthur was stable enough for a foster home. There, his emotional and physical scars continued to heal. Each night, he spent hours snuggling with his foster dad, and finally he learned how to play with toys like a normal kitty. Three months after arriving in such critical condition, Arthur was healed and ready for a permanent home. He was adopted and is now a cherished family member.

Your CFC donation to the Kentucky Humane Society helps us rescue, rehabilitate and find loving homes for thousands of dogs, cats and horses a year. Thank you for your compassion!

Help Us Save More Animals Like Magic
Transcript

The Kentucky Humane Society has a special mission to help the most vulnerable animals. Some of the hardest cases we see are victims of abuse. Animals like Magic. This loving 10-month-old puppy was found in a field by animal control officers after he was shot through the mouth. The way the bullet was angled, he must have been looking up at his abuser. The bullet entered above his eye, went through his nasal cavity, and passed through his tongue before breaking his lower jaw. Magic was in pain, unable to eat, and weak from loss of blood. He was rushed to KHS so he could get the lifesaving care he needed. We performed emergency surgery to close his wounds, remove fragments of bone and teeth, and repair his tongue. We managed his pain and watched him round the clock. Once he was stable, he was placed in a loving foster home with a staff member, where he was able to heal not only from his physical injuries but also his emotional ones. Despite the horrific abuse he suffered in the hands of a human, Magic is a sweet, silly dog who loves everyone he meets.
