The LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation was founded in 2002, in memory of LeRoy Homer, First Officer of United Airlines#93 which crashed in Shanksville, PA on September 11, 20021.
The mission of the LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation is to encourage and support young adults who wish to pursue careers as professional pilots and increase awareness to the field of aviation.
The Foundation awards flight scholarships to obtain private pilot certification. Courtney "Voodoo" Vidt received a scholarship in 2006. Following in LeRoy's footsteps, she attended the US Air Force Academy and graduated in 2011. Courtney is currently the Director of Wing Training for the 62nd Airlift Wing, and is a member of the C17 West Coast Demo team.
