We are changing the way the world treats women.
For far too long, women’s health research has been understudied and underfunded. Our Women’s Health Impact Fund supports research, clinical trials, and patient care programs that affect women’s health across the entire lifespan.
Anything is possible when the country’s largest women’s research institute partners with a world-class women’s hospital. Since our founding in 1992 with four basic scientists at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, we have grown to support more than 30 research units covering 300+ conditions impacting women’s health and reproductive biology.
Our bench-to-bedside approach brings our cutting-edge research into clinical practice, right across the street at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital.
The impact of Magee-Womens is not just measured by achievements in the clinic and the lab. For Dr. Kyle Orwig, that impact can be heard in the story of a mother crediting him for the first ray of hope she had during her son’s cancer treatment. For Dr. Hy Simhan, it’s in the dozens of babies who got a healthy start in life because their mothers received resources and support from doulas. For countless pregnant and parenting women, it’s the ability to prioritize their own health while still giving their infants the care they need in the earliest days of their life.
Through our groundbreaking work in women’s cancer research, we’re supporting patients like Carolyn Kubik, whose life took an unexpected turn with a Stage IV ovarian cancer diagnosis. Thanks to the pioneering care she received at Magee-Womens and the contributions of ovarian cancer patients who participated in clinical trials, Dr. Kubik is not just surviving—she’s thriving.
We are an ecosystem of collaborators working across disciplines and breaking down silos to transform care and develop the treatments of tomorrow –– so that endometriosis patients like Allison Vorp no longer have to suffer pain for a decade while looking for answers. They can benefit from a groundbreaking first-of-its-kind research collaboration dedicated to finding solutions for millions affected by this disease.
Research is a vital tool. Impact is our goal — we want to continue to change lives today and for generations to come.
