Emery was diagnosed with leukemia when she was just three years old. Like many girls that age, watching movies, playing with dolls and dressing up like a princess with her sister were a few of her favorite things to do. When Emery found out she was eligible to receive a wish from Make-A-Wish® Minnesota, it didn’t take her long to decide that her wish was to be a princess.
Now, two years after Emery’s wish was granted, she and her parents reflect back on how the anticipation of the wish brought much needed joy in the midst of some really tough days.
Emery’s dad, Andrew, shared, “When she was diagnosed, it hit us really hard. The excitement of Emery having her dream come true for a day was very, very special.” Her mom, Heather, added, “It definitely gave us hope during some of the hardest days. Hope that a better day was coming.”
Emery’s wish day was magical and had everything a princess could dream of. Her tea party was filled with balloons, desserts, music, friends…and, of course, princesses. And to complete her perfect day, Emery was visited by a very special, magical white unicorn!
Emery’s wish allowed her to experience what it feels like to be a princess for a day, but to her parents, the wish gave her something even more valuable. “My favorite part of the wish day was her getting to be a kid,” said Andrew. “She could be Emery – not Emery with cancer – just Emery,” added Heather.
