Denise and her granddaughter, Alana, live 30 miles from Oxford, and they drove to the Mid-South Food Bank’s Go Green Mobile Distribution at East St. Peter church. Thanks to your generous donations, Denise has better access to healthy, whole foods.
Alana is a high school freshman living with her grandmother for the past two years. She’s in honors English, likes math, and participates in ROTC. At home, she and Denise enjoy playing cards together.
Denise shared that in addition to having diabetes, she’s legally deaf and has severe neuropathy in her hands and legs, which has left her unable to work.
It can be challenging to make ends meet supporting herself and a child on a fixed income. With the food you help provide, she can stretch her monthly budget.
“Everything helps... I need real food, and I want her to eat real food,” Denise says, motioning to Alana.
A favorite food Denise has received recently is turkey, which can be roasted and enjoyed, then sliced and packaged up for sandwiches in the coming weeks.
Grateful to the donors who support the Food Bank, Denise wanted to pass along a special message.
“Thanks! Thanks a bunch! It helps a lot. It helps us make ends meet,” she says.
