Imagine walking in the footsteps of the Revolutionaries who fought to create a new nation based on the ideals of liberty, equality, and self-determination. The Museum of the American Revolution, located in the heart of Philadelphia, brings history to life by sharing the stories of the diverse individuals who played pivotal roles in America's founding.
Through its engaging exhibits and educational programs, like the Living History Youth Summer Institute, the Museum inspires visitors of all ages to explore the complex, multi-faceted history of the American Revolution. Skyy Simeron, a rising junior at Howard University and participant in the Summer Institute, reflects on the profound impact the program has had on her personal and academic growth:
"Too many times, parts of history are left in the darkness—unexplored, untaught, and unspoken of. Lots of people know the story of the man at the center of a painting, but not as many know the surrounding figures that make up the whole picture. But this program has enforced that the story does not have to be left incomplete. We can explore that research, we can teach what we have learned, we can speak what won’t be spoken. We can be unafraid to cast a light on the shadows."
Skyy’s experience captures the very essence of the Museum's mission—to shine a light on untold stories and breathe life into history. The Museum is home to thousands of artifacts, including personal letters, weapons, and historic documents, offering a tangible connection to the past. Programs like the Summer Institute empower young people to carry these stories forward, ensuring that the Revolution's ideals resonate today.
As a non-profit organization, the Museum of the American Revolution relies on the generosity of supporters to continue preserving and sharing these invaluable stories. Contributions to the Museum enable the ongoing conservation of rare artifacts, the development of dynamic programs, and the expansion of virtual learning opportunities that bring the Revolution into classrooms across the country.
