At the start of every retreat organized by NVWHC, a Welcome Home Ceremony sets the tone. Guided by a Native elder drumming the heartbeat rhythm, participants are led through a flag line held by the retreat staff and local community members. This ritual is a heartfelt tribute to Veterans, reflecting the deep respect NVWHC believes they deserve. Walking through the flag line, attendees hear expressions like "Welcome Home" and "Thank you for your service," stirring feelings of pride mixed with a touch of sorrow for what may have been endured or sacrificed.
