Hanna came to Our House in April of 2022 when she found herself homeless and had nowhere else to go. Since then, Hanna has completely turned her life around! After almost a year of living at Our House, Hanna has felt the security of having a steady job and is acclimating herself to being in the workforce again as she works in the guard shack on campus. Hanna has moved from our Shelter into our transitional Family House living where she has been able to establish a rental history for the first time in a long time. In her time at Our House Hanna has worked with the Career Center to obtain her birth certificate, get clean, and get connected to occupational training. Hanna was selected for a scholarship to participate in The Innovation Hub’s “Skills to Launch” program and spent 10 weeks learning carpentry skills until graduating! Hanna has a dream of crafting heirlooms that families will want to keep for generations, but she’s starting off by completing a cozy cat house for the neighborhood cats! Hanna’s next goal is to save up for a vehicle, and she is now focusing on finding employment after her job training term ends.

Now, a year later, Hanna has completed a two year stay in our Housing programs, and with the rental history and references from Our House, she is moving into her dream apartment! Hanna has saved up money to purchase a vehicle, and she is loving her position as a Team Lead at Community Bakery, where she has worked for almost a year. Hanna is very excited to get a pet in her new space and to be located near The Innovation Hub, where she continues to take classes after participating in a scholarship program. Hanna has also had the honor of serving on the Pulaski County advisory board for the city's upcoming tiny-home project; she was even able to attend a 3-day symposium in Texas to learn about a similar project. “If it wasn’t for the community of people around me, I wouldn’t have made it this far,” Hannah says, “because I’ve tried before and failed. This time, the love and support made all the difference.”

CHARITY VIDEO
Finding A New Beginning At Our House
Transcript

Video shows a young woman, Lauren (30 years old), facing the camera to share her story of how she came to Our House, mixed with clips of Lauren playing with her three-year old daughter Riley. Laren and Riley play with toys while they laugh and hug as Lauren speaks:

“I got in a cab, and spent $10 in change, the last I had, and this nice gentleman that I will never forget, said ‘just give me whatever you’ve got, and I’ll get you there.’ And so he brought me to Our House, and I didn’t have to struggle after that. I didn’t have to worry.”
“Ok, now I have this roof over my head with my daughter, ok. This place can help you succeed. I’m thirty. It is time for me to have a life… to finally get on with my life. I am now an adult. Since I have been here for almost 9 months, I am now truly a mother by myself. The difference I’ve seen in Riley, and the help that I got from that is amazing. She has her own voice now. She can tell me what she needs. She can tell me what’s wrong. I never the first day coming here, I never would have thought nor imagined that this place would have resources as it does.”
