Volunteers, community groups, and local governments can invest a lot of effort into creating new parks, trails, preserves, and other community open spaces. But they often fail to take steps that will ensure that their conservation work will be lasting. This sometimes leads to serious conflicts in communities and losses for these public resources years or decades later when officials less interested in conservation see other uses for these lands.

WeConservePA addressed this problem by researching and analyzing the issues and then developing a package of resources to aid local government officials and community groups in establishing appropriate permanent protections for their public lands. WeConservePA makes these resources—a set of model legal documents and explanatory guides (including basic introduction and advanced legal analysis)—available to all free-of-charge thanks to its financial supporters.
