One of the ways that Wrights Aviation Ministries helps in our community is by providing a helping hand to those veterans who reside at the Aspire Center that is run by the VA here in San Diego.
The VA Aspire Center houses veterans who are enrolled in substance abuse aftercare programs and are currently homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Many of the veterans who live there have been recently discharged from the VA Hospital’s inpatient drug/alcohol rehab ward. The Aspire Center allows them to continue to make progress in their recovery in a safe and clean environment.
WAM assists in these efforts by donating funds that are designated to be used for bus passes for these veterans. This provides transportation for them to better enable them to get to and from doctor’s appointments, counseling sessions at the VA Hospital, and their 12 step meetings. It is a very worthy cause.
