Thanks to your generosity, and with the guidance of our Advisory Committee, we were able to deliver just under $20,0000 to the following local organizations and non-profit groups dedicated to the prevention of child abuse:
$7,000 will help to cover rent at TOBY'S HOUSE CRISIS NURSERY in 2022. Toby's House offers a safe, drop-off childcare option for families in crisis at no charge. It is, in our opinion, a vital service for the prevention of abuse.
$10,000 was presented to PEACE PLACE RESPITE CARE. Peace Place focuses on respite care for the families of children with special needs. Unfortunately, special needs kids are at much higher risk of being abused. 50% of this amount is specifically earmarked for parenting education, specialized for each child's individual behavioral needs. It will focus on prevention by teaching pro-active strategies and verbal de-escalation. This will give parents tools they can use to keep difficult situations from rising to the level of physical violence. The other half will be used toward important respite programs they already provide for these families.
The remainder of our 2021 funds will be utilized in the form of gift cards for area First Responders and Child Welfare workers. The gift cards will be available to them for immediate needs as they see fit in emergent situations. For example: if a firefighter on a call recognizes the need for an infant to have a safe crib to sleep in, he or she can use one of the cards we have provided his department to purchase and deliver a crib to the family. ...or winter gear, or car seats, etc., etc.
It was our absolute honor to deliver these checks and gift cards yesterday, and what a perfect time if year for it to happen!🌲🎅
If we can find 1000 people willing to donate $100 each year, together we will give $100,000 annually toward the prevention of child abuse in and around our area.
