Seeing larger mammals like river otters make their home in the Anacostia Watershed is a huge sign that our river is returning to health. Fresh from our winter critter cam at Heurich Park in Hyattsville we caught our clearest picture yet of a river otter.
Heurich Park runs along the Northwest branch of the Anacostia River just north of the confluence with Sligo Creek, and the Anacostia Watershed Society has worked for decades on invasive plant control, tree plantings and maintenance, and park cleanups to make it the otter-friendly habitat that it now is. Anacostia River wildlife have been very active this winter, and we are excited to share the highlights from our critter cam in the galleries below.
