There is no excuse for children to go hungry yet even practice being hungry. But it happens every day, in every community.
For some kids, lunch at school may be the last healthy meal of the day. According to a study done this year by Feeding America, over 78,000 Alaskans – 1 in 10 – struggle with food insecurity. And 13% of all Alaskan kids live in homes that may not have enough food.
Since our founding in 2004, The Children’s Lunchbox remains one of the leading nonprofits in Anchorage Alaska dedicated to ending childhood hunger. Though we focus most urgently on feeding hungry children, the scope of our work has expanded to helping entire families and our community to achieve stability and reduce the need.
In fiscal year 2022, our Children's Lunchbox program provided more than 624,000 pounds of food. Shelf stable pantry packs valued at more than 6,240,000 million dollars which supplemented family needs and do offer hope to more than 312,000 families across the Municipality of Anchorage.
