COVID-19 created an unprecedented need for food assistance.
And crushed the restaurant industry.
Childhood Obesity and Type II Diabetes skyrocketed.
Unemployment soared.
In March 2020, Real Food for Kids partnered with local chefs to create CHEFS FEEDING FAMILIES.
The initiative has served over 325,000 free, plant-forward meals to food-insecure children and families.
And put restaurant workers back in their kitchens.
The program has evolved to a more sustainable model for families, providing meal kits and produce bags.
Included are recipes, easy preparation tips, and nutrition information to inform and inspire the preparation of nourishing meals at home.
The aftereffects of the pandemic continue to blast families.
Rising rents, access to child care, uncompetitive wages, and escalating food costs continue to fuel hunger.
1 out of 3 people in the D.C. region are food insecure.
Real Food for Kids works to dismantle barriers to food and nutrition security.
