Transcript

My name is Marisol and I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 24 and I felt a new lump, um, it kind of surprised me. So I watched it myself over a couple months and by March I knew that it had grown. It had like doubled in size. And so I went to go see a doctor. My, I didn't have, um, like full medical insurance.

I was, I was 24 in college. Um, and at the time a single mom. And so my parents took me to Wharton, Texas and, um, I saw a breast surgeon there. And I was diagnosed with Cystosarcoma Phyllodes. The doctor, the surgeon said, well it's about a $20,000 surgery. And I looked at my parents and I'm like, Oh no, cause I, I hate to be a burden on anybody.

The doctor said, Well, I have this form. It's from the Rose. Just fill it out and we'll, we'll go from there. They can possibly cover some of the surgery. And so what I remember is they paid about $19,000 and I, I paid out of pocket like $1,000.
