Our dad was deported. When that happened everything just kind of worsened. Just a lot for our fourth grader to handle. I didn't know how to handle my emotions, so I took it out on others. When enough bad things happen in your life, you really just start to shut down. But they knew they could come to us and say, "Listen, I'm unmotivated, I don't feel like going to school. I don't even feel like doing my homework right now." And we would come and reassure them. Yes, you can. Like, you can do it. We're just going to start with something that you want to share with us. CB is my family. They listen to me, they talk with me. I'm trying my best and I'm doing well. And like CB sees that and they're just, like, proud of it. It makes me like yo, "I've got this." I'm so excited for them to see what they are going to do next.
